Vin loved Hannah. Hannah knew that. His mistake was not a lack of love. His mistake was believing there would always be more time. More time after the work was done. More time after the bills were paid. More time after the next goal, the next sacrifice, the next thing he thought would make life better for his family.
He was building their future.
Then Hannah was gone, and the future he had been working toward was gone with her.
What remained was Will and Charlotte.
When the world begins to fall apart, Vin is forced into the same question all over again. Will he keep reaching for some better tomorrow, or will he finally learn to be fully present with the children standing in front of him?
Across What Remained of Us, Hold the Line, and Steadfast, the Remnants trilogy follows Vin, Will, and Charlotte from Tampa into the harder, quieter country of collapse, including the water, isolation, and Old Florida shadows of Homosassa.
This is a story about survival, but survival is not the heart of it.
The heart of Remnants is grief, family, faith, love, legacy, and the cost of learning too late that tomorrow was never promised. It is about lost opportunities, second chances, and the fragile ember inside a person that has to be protected when everything goes dark.
Vin cannot save the life he lost.

Vin knows how to build structure. He knows how to solve problems, push through pressure, and keep things standing when everything starts to come apart. But when loss and collapse close in, the same strength that has always carried him begins to work against him. He is skilled, capable, and determined, but he is still trying to hold everything together by force when the moment may be asking for something different. In Tampa, with Will and Charlotte depending on him, Vin has to face the question at the heart of What Remained of Us: will he make the same mistake again out of love, always trying to build and protect tomorrow, or can he grow enough to be present for what his children need today?

Hold the Line
The family makes it to Homosassa, but getting there was only the beginning. Vin has moved Will and Charlotte away from the noise and into the house he hoped would give them a chance. Now the job is to stay quiet, stay smart, and protect what they have. Food. Water. Shelter. Tools. Trust. Every decision matters, because every weakness can become an opening. The world outside is changing fast. People are scared. Desperate. Unpredictable. Vin knows the truth now. Surviving is not enough. He has to hunker down, stay vigilant, and hold the line before everything he has left is taken from him.

Steadfast
The truth is out, and the world is not ready. What caused the collapse is finally known, and everything Vin thought he understood changes with it. There is no time to prepare and no perfect plan to follow. Vin, Will, and Charlotte have to call an audible, trust what they have learned, and find the courage to move forward when fear says to stay still. This is where survival becomes something larger. Faith, family, courage, and the ember within are tested. The question is no longer only how to stay alive. The question is whether they can remain steadfast when the truth finally comes into the light.

Remnants is about regret, legacy, and learning to live in the moment before the moment is gone. Vin spent his life building a future for the people he loved, only to discover that the future can be taken without warning. Now, with Hannah gone and his children depending on him, he has to decide what kind of father he will be with the time he still has.
